Personality
What is your character most afraid of? How are they defined by this fear? (200-300 words)
Heights! Not really but it ties into it.
Clark is has an immense fear of the unknown and things that are out of his control. And he let's that hold himself back from really expressing who he is as a person.
This is drilled into him at a young age because of his abilities. He wasn't allowed to play with kids or join sports teams during grade school out of fear that he might accidentally hurt someone. His parents went to a large effort to hide his abilities out of fear that someone he might be taken away to be experimented on or exploited because of his abilities.
It doesn't help that almost all of the remains of his alien heritage turn out to be evil, lacking in empathy, tyrannical or just down right destructive.
As such Clark tends to keep even the people closest to him at arms length. In part to protect them from the harm that people looking to use him might cause, but also to protect them from himself should he turn out to not be so great either.
This manifests itself physically in the show by being one of the main things that holds Clark back from flying. He is literally holding himself back. And almost any of the times he is shown to unknowingly float or fly are points where he is really just lost in a moment and letting himself be him.
What is your character's greatest desire? How are they defined by this desire? (200-300 words)
Despite all the powers. Despite the grand destiny as the Earth's greatest champion. Clark Kent for the most part just wants to be loved and accepted as himself. As a teenager he wanted to be with the girl of his dreams, play football, hang out with with his friends and just live with his life. Unfortunately because of his abilities and a variety of other reasons (Aliens, Criminals, Obsessive best friends, ancient sex pollen plants, kryptonite infected people) he finds himself unable to really live the life he wants to. Whether it's the fact a simple touch could break someone or something, the fact that just knowing his secret could put people in danger, or that he could get turned on and light someone on fire with his eyes. (I'm not making this up. This is a fucking plot point in a terrible episode.) Life is rough for Clark Kent and generally when push comes to shove, he feels since he has the power to make a difference then he's going to go out and make that difference if he can.
At the same time thinking of spending his life with the people he cares about as just a regular guy doing regular things is what ends up giving him the power to fly. And at the end of the day when he finally does trade all of the things he can do to quietly raise his kids on his family farm. He's very buff and wears red flannel. He makes it work.
What is your character's most defining memory or relationship? How are they defined by this relationship? (200-300 words)
Lex Luthor starts out as one of Clark's best friends and ends up being one of his greatest enemies.
Lex and Clark are both the results of polar opposite forms of extreme parenting. Clark was raised by a family that loved and cared for him, Lex was molded into a shell of a person from the absence of care.
Both initially bond over a sense of mutual feelings of being misunderstood. Clark is an awkward high school student and Lex is universally disliked because of his family name.
Their initial meeting starts with Clark pulling Lex out of a car wreck in a way that would be impossible for a normal person to do. He isn't honest about how it happened and this sparks an obsession in Lex to find out what really happened and unravel the mystery that is Clark. This only breeds more mistrust that eventually leads to animosity. Clark tries his best to bring out the best in Lex but can never fully trust him because the other wont take him at his word. Lex wont stop obsessing over finding out the truth because he knows it's being hidden from him. The flip side being with the darker path Lex was going down would telling him the truth actually fix things or just make it worse?
How will not having memories change your character? What core personality traits, if any, will change? How? (200-300 words)
An actual quote from a memory loss episode of the show is “You had a clean slate, but at the end of the day you made all the same choices. Except for one. You trusted me.”
The main thing that will change is that Clark will be a bit more free to act on his own and do what he thinks is right. With a little less regard for what other people think of him while he's doing it. Not because he doesn't care though- but because he doesn't know any better
He wont be openly destructive because he's a good guy who cares about the world around him. But he's also a little clumsy and careless and doesn't exactly know what he can do.
I think in general he'll probably be more clumsy and careless as he tries to fumble around with what he's capable of but wont have the weight of a looming destiny on him. Which will make him more genuine with the people around him.
